Over a million newly registered voters were removed from the list of fake voters by the Nigerian electoral commission.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) claims that after a single verification procedure, they remove the affected voters from the register and “clean up” the database.
According to an announcement made by INEC on Monday, September 12th, those affected are the people who registered between June 2021 and January 2022 in order to receive Permanent Voters Cards.
According to the election commission, 2,523,458 people registered during that time.
However, they learn from the records that 1,126,359 individuals registrations are “invalid and so delisted.”
By this, the commission states that the registrations made during that time were roughly half invalid.
The commission claims that they find “double, triple, and ineligible registrants.”
