Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, has tasked key members of his campaign team to “fight,” “grab,” and “run away” with political power in the 2023 general election.

In a video, Mr. Tinubu could be seen lecturing some senior party members in London. Following his attendance at the Chatham House interview earlier in the week.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the 70-year-old politician, said:

“Political power is not going to be served in a restaurant. They don’t serve it a la carte. At all cost, fight for it, grab it and run with it”

After giving the address, the former governor of Lagos State, who is currently in the United Kingdom, can be seen in the video being hailed by his supporters.

Since his rise to the position of governor of Lagos in 1999, Mr. Tinubu has remained firmly in control of the political landscape in Nigeria’s financial hub.

His supporters see it as evidence of his political savviness, but the opposition claims the former governor uses harsh tactics, such as using violence, to thwart elections in areas where the opposition is strong.

The APC nominee is seen as the front-runner for the elections of next year, but he will be up against veteran contender and former vice president Atiku Abubakar. Former Anambra governor Peter Obi is also expressing confidence in doing well in the election, which some observers believe may be heavily impacted by feelings of an ethno-religious nature.

The opposition, though, is accusing him of plotting to manipulate the general election after the video went viral on social media.
