XMEN, FUJIAN, CHINA – A popular Chinese internet personality became the target of a gruesome assault during a live broadcast on May 23.
A man identified only as ‘Luo’, armed with a sword, attacked the livestreamer and a companion in Xiamen, a city in the southeastern Fujian province.
The livestreamer’s hand was cut off while streaming on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, in a terrible sequence of events that played out in front of a live audience of 99 people.
The streamer’s terrifying altercation has since gone viral across social media platforms, sparking widespread outrage both in China and globally.
The Incident
A viral clip shared across Facebook, Twitter, and Weibo captures the chilling moment when the sword-wielding assailant struck. The streamer and his friend managed to flee the scene but not before the streamer’s hand was severed during the encounter.
Footage from the incident also revealed a group of terrified onlookers fleeing as the assailant continued his violent rampage.

Aftermath and Arrest
According to a report from Asia One, an ambulance and police officers rushed to the scene upon receiving news of a violent fight.
The police discovered that the suspect, identified only as ‘Luo’, had had a quarrel with the streamer and his friend on Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok, prior to the attack. Luo retaliated with a deadly sword attack, severing the streamer’s hand in the process.
Following the attack, the victims were rushed to the hospital and treated for “non-life-threatening injuries”. Despite the horrific nature of the incident, both victims survived the attack.
A haunting image showing the severed hand laying on the ground was circulated online, with netizens calling for strict action against the sword-wielding individual.
The suspect, Luo, was apprehended by the police a few hours later. However, the investigation is ongoing.
Precedent
This incident is not the first of its kind involving violence and livestreamers. A similar episode took place in October 2022, where a Twitch streamer was attacked by a group of drunk youngsters in Amsterdam.
