Fact Check: Is Nollywood Actor Hanks Anuku Mad?

The claim: Hanks Anuku, a Nigerian Nollywood actor, is mad and is seen wandering the streets of Asaba, Delta State.

The Claim: Nollywood star Hanks Anuku has been seen wandering the streets of GRA Benin City in the Nigerian state of Edo, appearing to be mentally unstable.

In 2019, a viral video that alleged that one of the nation’s movie stars was crazy and wandering around in the capital of Delta State caused a lot of social controversy in Nigeria.

In 2021, a young man by the name of Roman Osas was also said to have seen the actor in a local bar in Asaba Delta State looking insane and to have believed that he was under the influence of drugs.

A new video from 2022 shows the Nollywood celebrity wandering the streets of Benin, Edo State, like a lunatic.

According to Shan George, a Nollywood actress, singer, producer, and director, Hanks Anuku is not mad that they filmed a movie together in November 2022.

“Hanks is fine; we were on the same set,’ she said. “This photo was taken three days ago.”

Shan claims that “they were together in Asaba three days ago” and that Hanks is fine they are on the same set.

The post claiming that Hanks Anuku is mad was widely shared on Twitter, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, where it led to hundreds of online conversations.

In contrast to what transpired in the popular videos from 2019, 2021, and this most recent one from 2022, in which they spotted him in Benin City, Shan’s statement is flat-out incorrect.

Actress Adanma Luke countered Shan George and told her fans that Anuku is not well and their colleagues should help him instead of covering up.
