  • Lagos State has more confirmed coronavirus cases than 135 countries and territory around the world, according to data from NCDC.
  • The state has at least 1,667 confirmed cases, overtaking Ivory Coast, Senegal, New Zealand, Slovakia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Hong Kong, Tunisia, Somalia, Latvia. Nigeria leads as the country with the most confirmed cases in sub-Saharan Africa, clocking in at over 3,900.

Lagos State, Africa’s largest city has beaten out more than 135 countries and territories around the world in terms of confirmed cases of the coronavirus COVID-19 has fewer deaths than countries like Kenya, Paraguay, and Tanzania.

Lagos, which has become the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria, has had at least 33 deaths, according to the latest report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The first confirmed case in sub-Saharan Africa was in Nigeria, the case involved an Italian citizen who entered the country on 24 February on a Turkish Airlines flight from Milan.

As the time of this report, Nigeria has confirmed a total of 3,912 cases of virus and 117 deaths.

The country confirmed 386 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
