Iran is undoubtedly one of the most difficult countries for women to live in because of the government’s strict control over everything, including what women wear, how they educate themselves, and how they live. I believe everyone has had enough and they are speaking up now.
There are numerous videos from northwest Iran that have gone viral where women are seen protesting by removing their hijabs.
Women, life, and freedom are the major chants being shouted at by demonstrators in the streets.
This alone demonstrates that what is happening is revolutionary, exciting, and historically significant. We hope that their voices are heard by the world.
The question is why are these ladies putting their lives in danger by doing this in Iran, a country where wearing a headscarf is mandatory and removing them is illegal?
We must go back to last week’s events in Iran in order to comprehend this outpouring of mourning.
Mahsa Amini Protests
On September 13, 2022, a 22-year-old woman called Mahsa Amini was detained by Iran’s moral policing squad for failing to wear a headscarf.
She was allegedly beaten by police inside their van, and the injuries she sustained put her in a coma. When she was taken to a hospital in northern Tehran the following day, the physicians there reported that she had no vital signs.
Since then, the Iranian government has launched a complex cover-up. First, the police denied beating Amini and claimed she suffered a heart attack while they were detaining her. Next, the police statement was filtered and removed from all social media sites.
Because of this, women around the nation turned out in large numbers to protest in Mahsa Amini’s support.
