The Nigerian music industry has seen many stars rise and fall, but few stories are as captivating and heart-wrenching as that of IleriOluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad or Imole. From the streets of Ikorodu to the limelight of stardom, Mohbad’s journey was filled with dreams, sacrifices, and unexpected turns.

From Streets to Stardom

  • Birth and Early Life: Born on June 8th, 1996, in Lagos State, Mohbad grew up in Ikorodu, a place known for its vibrant music scene. His passion for music was evident from a young age.
  • Rise to Fame: His freestyle videos, shared online, were his ticket to fame. One such video caught the attention of Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, a prominent figure in the music industry. Impressed by Mohbad’s talent, Naira Marley signed him to his record label, Marlian Music.
  • Hit Songs: Under Marlian Music, Mohbad released chart-toppers like “Ko Por Ke,” “Ponmo Sweet,” and “Marlians Anthem.”

But as the saying goes, “All that glitters is not gold.”

The Dark Side of Fame

However, being signed to a record label owned by a drug lord came with its own set of challenges. Mohbad and other artists signed to the label were initiated into peddling drugs and taking an oath of secrecy never to reveal what was going on in the label. Mohbad refused to take the oath of secrecy, which led to him being sidelined by the label boss. He started complaining that he needed promotion too and that Naira Marley couldn’t be promoting Zino alone and leaving him hanging. This led to a rift between him and Naira Marley, which escalated into physical fights.
