After Twitter’s deleted some President Buhari tweets, followed by the statement he made referring to the 1967-70 civil war in the southeastern Biafra region that killed 2 million people, the Buhari led administration has now banned the giant microblogging platform for operating in Nigeria.

Twitter has said Buhari violated its “abusive behaviour” policy leading to a 12-hour suspension of his account but that is not how the ruling party saw it.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said he banned the operations of Twitter in Nigeria because of the continued use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.

He added that the Federal Government has also directed the National Broadcasting l Commission (NBC) to immediately commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria.
