Zimbabwe United Nations Association vice president, Fisher Chiyanike, was on Thursday arrested over allegations of sexual harassment and misappropriation of funds meant for grants.
Eight ladies held placards written ‘we are tired of sexual harassment’, ‘we are tired of man that abuses women’, ‘no more abuse of the organisation funds and grant redu ririkuendepi’ before confronting Fisher leading to his arrest.
Fisher was reported to have led women and men who are on attachment at the organisation to a scouting camp where he sent love messages to some of the girls demanding to have private talks with them at another hotel.
“What we want to know from you Mr Fisher is whether you are not happy with your marriage because we are not happy with your messages that includes asking some of us out,” one of the victims was heard saying banging Fisher’s table.
“Makanditumira message iyi muchindiudza kuti marohwa nemukadzi wenyu musina kupfeka achibvunza nyaya yekudanana na Melody muchindikumbira kuti ndiwane nguva yekukunyaradzai maida kunyaradzwa kwerudzii neni,” added the victim.
The girls, who are human rights activists, put Fisher to task, showing him the messages he sent to each one of them forcing him to apologise and called police leading to his arrest.
Fisher told H-Metro that some of the allegations levelled against him by the ladies were true whilst some were exaggerated.
“The girls are not happy with their money mainly because we have not been receiving money from our donors for the past few months,” said Fisher.
“On allegations of sexual harassment, some of them are true although some are being exaggerated,” said Fisher before refusing to answer further questions claiming to have received a message from his lawyer asking him not to talk to press.
In a sudden turn of events, Fisher was quick to lodge a report with police against the girls upon arriving at Milton Police station accusing them of locking him from outside.
Zimbabwe United Nations Association president Michael Laban sent a message to ZUNA officials not to allow Fisher to take any official document and stop using organization vehicle after reports that police released him in the dead of the night.
Following is part of Laban’s report to ZUNA officials.
“On Monday, 12 March, there was a postmortem of the last two events, the Scout Jamboree that ended Saturday and the International Women’s Day event on Saturday.
“This ended with very loud, but verbal only, complaints against current leadership, and allegations of a sexual nature. I am awaiting written details.
“Today, Friday 16 March 2018, I received calls, and was asked to go to the ZUNA office.
“Fisher has been charged with fraud and was taken to ZRP Milton Park outpost. I am aware of all the details. There are many more allegations pending.
“Until these matters are finalised, I (the other Trustees have asked me to do this in general with exact details to be agreed to) have locked the office and have been assured I have the only keys. I will open the office and be present Monday at 0900. We will all meet then.
“Fisher Chiyanike is not to be allowed any access to the building. We still have full staff, e.g. Brighton Musevenzo is the Programmes Officer, and will continue to run programmes.
“Ronald and I will oversee all activities, and expect all people to report on our activities. It is also noted that Fisher has many extended family members involved in ZUNA – so we are all to be aware of, and report on, everyone’s activities.
“No documents or electronic information devices (computers, laptops, etc.) are to be removed from the office. If they are ‘personal’ the Board will investigate, ensure they are not on the ZUNA list of assets, and make a decision later. People have already attempted to remove Fisher’s laptop from the office,” read part of Laban’s report to ZUNA officials.
Fisher’s alleged girlfriend was reported to have removed Fisher’s laptop and other documents to conceal evidence, impeccable
