The National Association of Seadogs, also known as the Pyrates Confraternity, has composed the new trending song “Baba wey no well e dey shout emilokan.”
Several reports claimed that the song was a jab at Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC candidate for president of Nigeria in 2023.
The group’s members danced and sang in the one-minute video, “Hand dey shake, leg dey shake, baba wey no well he dey shout Emi Lokan,” which is generally translated as “With an unstable hand and leg, a man with a poor health is sounding off that it’s his turn to be Nigeria’s president.”
Emilokan
On June 3, 2022, during a meeting with party delegates in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Tinubu voiced frustration about the lack of support for his bid to secure the party’s presidential nomination. It was at this time that the phrase “Emi Lokan” began to circulate around the country.
The fact that he had contributed to Muhammadu Buhari’s election as president in 2015, he stated.

Wole Soyinka on pyrates confraternity emilokan
The Nobel laureate said in a statement on Monday headlined “Interim statement on a dubious political outing” that his interest had been awakened by a video clip that had been going viral online of what appeared to be Pyrates Confraternity members chanting and dancing in red and white costumes.
“The display acidly targets a presidential candidate in the upcoming 2023 elections,” Soyinka stated.
It is imperative that I make it clear and unmistakable that I am not involved in that public performance or in any way connected to the emotions stated in the songs because everyone is aware of my affiliation with that fraternity.
