A video clip of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido being attacked and even pushed out of a restaurant has gone viral on social media. The incident is said to have occurred in San Carlos, the capital of Cojedes State in northwestern Venezuela.
Several people can be seen in the video hurling items, pushing, and hitting the politician. Some of his supporters recorded the incident and shared it on social media.
Mr Juan issued a press statement after the video went viral, claiming that he was assaulted by members of Venezuela’s ruling Socialist Party.
Apart from the video that went viral, A photo tweeted by a Venezuelan lawmaker shows Juan being held back as crowds crowded around him, with someone ripping at his clothes.
The politician said that the vandals who attacked Juan Guaido had been thoroughly recognized.
Juan was attacked at a restaurant, according to the person who first posted the now-viral footage on social media.
According to a report published by DW, Before they attacked him, he was interacting with locals in a small town near the capital city.
Mr Guaido listed two people in one of his social media tweets who he claimed were clearly identifiable in photographs and videos.
In response to the viral video, Antony Blinken, an American government official and diplomat, condemned the incident.
“For the second time in as many weeks, Interim President @jguaido was attacked in Venezuela. The United States is deeply concerned and condemns these escalating acts of violence, harassment, and intimidation against Interim President Guaidó and all those who stand for democracy,” Blinken said.
