A video of an NYPD officer punching a woman in the face has now gone viral on social media.
MandyNews.com saw the footage of the NYC police officer punching the woman in the face and knocking her to the ground for the first time on TMZ on Wednesday, August 31.
According to TMZ, the incident took place on August 12 in Harlem. In the midst of a mob, some officers were seen making an attempt to detain a suspect in connection with an attempted murder.
As the situation grew ugly, a police officer was seen attempting to push a woman away from the chaos, but the woman pushed him away. The woman was then punched by the policeman as she stumbled to the ground.
This stunned everyone there, and one guy was overheard yelling at the police officer, “Why would you do that?!”
Although we couldn’t tell if she lost consciousness, the police had her standing up and handcuffing her a short while later.
Numerous viewers and commenters from all around the world have seen and reacted to the video hundreds of times.
The NYPD responded to the uproar surrounding the video by describing it as self-defense.
The police department claimed that several people on the scene interfered with the arrest by physically attacking numerous policemen. One police officer suffered a minor head injury.
According to reports, two ladies were accused of assaulting a police officer, evading arrest, and impeding governmental operations.
An extra allegation of menacing and harassment was brought against one of them, while spitting at a police officer was leveled against a third woman.
The NYPD has not yet made any announcements about disciplining the officer.
