Nigeria fast rising singer Buju is now officially “BNXN”. He has changed to the name he was born with but with different spelling and the same pronunciation: he named one of his 2021 songs after his legal name, many people are currently discussing what BNXN means.
Anyway, the Akwa Ibom-born singer has now made the change official, with a letter showing the reason for the transformation of name on Thursday, February 17.
BNXN, to be pronounced “BENSON,” though the name has not been featured on his social media accounts, there is a new project coming on the way with the name.
He made a declaration of the change of name with a video snippet, alongside a caption “it’s no longer “Buju” anyway, call me “Benson” written BNXN.”
Why Buju Changed His Name
Early on in his career, Benson used Buju as a stage name as many other well-known artists do.
He changed his name from “Buju” because he felt it will cause damage to him in the future. He began his career as Buju forgetting there is only one Buju Banton, the Jamaican reggae-dancehall singer.
“ Dear Daniel Benson, It’s great to see how far you’ve come in your music career but Buju really you’re far from gboyada the last time I checked. You are not a Tamo there is only one Buju and it’s Banton. You are good no cap but we need a new name,” this was what was written in the letter sighted in the video on Instagram.
So the simple reason Buju changed his name is because of “Buju Banton”, there have been cases of misrepresentations, it’s not good for both artists. It’s only fair Buju changed his stage name because Buju Banton has been here long before him.
