Is World cup bigger than Grammy awards? Yes.

Note: These are totally different organizations that can’t really be compared, but we are going to anyway based on the impact they have on performing artists.

We decided we’d write this piece after seeing a trend on Twitter about biggest rivalry fan bases in Africa arguing over Wizkid winning Grammys and Davido singing at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 final draw.

Davido performing at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, according to 30BG fans, is better than him winning a Grammy award.

But Wizkid fans disagreed, saying that the world cup is not a music award and it can’t be compared to the Grammys.

So we did a little research on Google and found Super Bowl vs. Grammys comparison articles by Billboard analyzing their sales impact on artists.

Whether the World Cup is an award or not, Davido fans have the right to brag about it. Every win is a win.

Anyway, let’s dive into the impact of the Qatar 2022 World Cup and Grammy 2022 awards on Davido and Wizkid.

  • Davido will be performing at the Qatar world cup 2022 draw
  • Wizkid will be performing at Grammy 2022 awards
  • Wizkid nominated for grammy 2022
  • Davido features on the FIFA World Cup™ Official Soundtrack

That’s a win-win situation for Africa, Nigeria, and afrobeat music.

Grammy Awards

The GRAMMY Awards are one of the four major entertainment awards in the United States. The Recording Academy bestows the prize on musicians of all ages and genres.

However, despite all of the hype and desperation to win, the Grammys do not pay a dime to those nominated in the 84 categories or to the artists who perform on the show.

World Cup Official Soundtrack

FIFA and its partners put a lot of effort into the World Cup’s soundtrack by trying to select songs that people would instantly associate with the tournament.

It’s safe to say the tactic paid off, with celebrities like Shakira, K’naan others helping the game gain a larger following.

For the 2010 World Cup campaign, Coca-Cola spent $300 million on K’naan’s song “Wavin’ Flag,” which he released in 2009.

According to Rick Tetzeli, The Coca‑Cola company paid K’naan a sponsorship fee of $150,000 as well as fees ranging from $7,500 to $25,000 for each performance.

So, why do musicians hunger for the Grammys?

Because it is the most effective marketing weapon available to the entertainment business.

Now let’s talk about the impact.

According to statista.com, only 8.8 million tuned in to watch the Grammy Awards ceremony in 2021.

According to an audit, a record 3.572 billion people tuned in to watch the 2018 FIFA World Cup RussiaTM.

Wizkid lost both nominations at the 2022 Grammy awards.

If he had the win the two Grammy Davido would have still benefited more from the Qatar 2022 world cup.

The FIFA World Cup partners paid him for featuring and performing on the song. They will promote the song themselves. He has performed to more than 100 million views, and he will probably do that again by November. That will probably be viewed by a billion people.

So the World Cup feature is better than Grammy award winner.

This post exists solely to satisfy the thirst of people looking for Grammy and World Cup similarities between Davido and Wizkid.
