A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 election.
He defeated Southern aspirant to win the ticket by polling 371 votes at the party’s national convention held at the Valedrom, Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Abuja.
Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the governor of River State, received 237 votes, making him the closest challenger.
Mr. Atiku, 75, was Nigeria’s vice President between 1999 and 2007.
With his victory, the Adamawa-born politician and business magnate will now face the candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
This would be the sixth time the former customs officer has run for president. In the previous five, he had lost all of them.
Below is Atiku Abubakar’s Victory Message After Winning the PDP Presidential Primary.
- “Today, the battle to rebuild and unite our great country moves forward.
- I’m honoured to be named the PDP candidate.
- I look forward to speaking with Nigerians across the country, taking the message of hope and unity as we build one future for one people.-AA #OneNigeria”
