UMUAHIA, Nigeria (MandyNews.com) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the Obingwa local government area results, where the Labour Party (LP) secured 3,776 votes and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won 9,962 votes.
Following the declaration, Dr. Alex Otti of the Labour Party emerged as the Abia governorship election winner with a total of 94,000 votes. Otti triumphed in 10 out of the 17 local government areas (LGAs) in Abia State’s March 18 governorship election.
Okey Ahiwe from the People’s Democratic Party followed closely, winning six local government areas. Meanwhile, Enyinnaya Nwafor of the Young People’s Party (YPP) managed to secure one LGA.
The final collation of governorship election results resumed on Wednesday afternoon in Umuahia, Abia State, more than 48 hours after INEC suspended the exercise in the south-east state.
Prof. Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti, INEC’s returning officer for the state, is expected to announce the winner of the keenly contested poll shortly.
Nnannaya-Oti expressed her commitment to uphold democratic values and the rights of the people. “I shall stand squarely and unapologetically on these principles. The people’s votes and mandate shall stand,” she stated.
As a pastor and a mother, Nnannaya-Oti made it clear that she would not do anything that would hurt the future of the children in the state.Nnannaya-Oti is currently the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
When the election results are announced, Abia State will start a new chapter because the Labour Party will now be in charge of the governorship.
The election results show that the race was close and that many parties wanted to be in charge. As Dr. Alex Otti prepares to assume office, the people of Abia State will undoubtedly look forward to the changes and progress that his administration will bring.
