The Ballon d’Or, an award organized by France Football magazine, has cancelled the 2020 ceremony since Stanley Matthews won the first one in 1956 and Lionel Messi won the last one in 2019.
Lionel Messi has won Ballon d’Or six times in records — one more than long time rival Cristiano Ronaldo and any footballer since the history of football.
Why did Ballon d’or 2020 cancel?
The prestigious Ballon d’Or will not be awarded this year because the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the soccer season.
During a telephone interview, France Football editor Pascal Ferré told The Associated Press; “It’s such a strange year that we couldn’t treat it as an ordinary one. Let’s say that we started talking about (making the decision) at least two months ago”
