MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (MANDYNEWS) — The militant group Boko Haram launched a deadly ambush on a military convoy traveling along the Biu-Buratai-Buni Yadi road, resulting in the tragic loss of lives, including that of a Lieutenant whose identity has been withheld, and six other soldiers.
The Biu-Buratai-Buni Yadi road, a vital link between Borno and Yobe states, has become notorious for frequent attacks, posing significant security challenges in the region.
According to reliable sources, Thursday evening’s ambush claimed the lives of the lieutenant officer, a driver, gunner, and four other soldiers. Unconfirmed reports suggest that a substantial number of the assailants were also killed during the ensuing exchange of gunfire near Kamuya village, situated just a few kilometers from Buratai.
A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident, stating that soldiers from the 135 Special Force Battalion Forward Operating Base in Buratai fell victim to the attack while en route to Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state, to procure fuel.
“Unfortunately, one officer, along with a driver, gunner, and four other escorts, lost their lives in the ambush,” the security source disclosed.
