President Buhari has stated he cannot remove Mahmood Yakubu as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), due to the fact he might need a decision by using two-thirds majority of the Senate to do so.

There have been speculations that Buhari became set to fire the INEC boss, following the abrupt+ postponement of the general elections.
However, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, insisted there has been no reality in such claims.
“Those reports are wholly baseless and false. There is nothing like that.
“Whoever is saying the President is removing INEC chairman is simply displaying his illiteracy. Let him move and examine the constitution.
“You need a decision through two-thirds majority of the Senate for such a motion,” Shehu said in line with The Nation.
INEC moved the general elections to Saturday, February 23, approximately six hours to the begin of the polls on the authentic date of February 16.
