Did you know that President Mohammadu Buhari sent a request to the Senate to amend Electoral Act Section 84.12?
This means that serving political office holders will be voting or being voted for at conventions or congresses of any political party for the purpose of nominating candidates for any election in cases where it is held earlier than 30 days before the national election.
But the Senate on Wednesday rejected request to amend it.
As a result, all political appointees who wish to run for political office must resign from their current positions.
What is Electoral Act Section 84 12?
Section 84(2) Subsection 12 states that no political appointee shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of any candidate for an election.
