Two nominations for the 2023 Grammy Awards have been received by Afrobeats artist Odogwu Burna Boy.
The Recording Academy’s CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and Board of Trustees Chair Tammy Hurt, as well as a few special guests, participated in the Grammy Academy’s Livestream on Tuesday to announce the 2022 Grammy Awards nominations list from the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles.
Burna Boy was nominated for the Best Global Music Performance alongside other African superstars, including Arooj Aftab & Anoushka Shankar, Matt B & Eddy Kenzo, Rocky Dawuni & Blvk H3ro and Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini & Nomcebo Zikode .
The Nigerian Afrobeat heavy weight’s album Love, Damini was nominated for Best Global Music Album at the 65th Grammy Award show. He faces competition from Angélique Kidjo & Ibrahim Maalouf – Queen of Sheba, Anoushka Shankar, Metropole Orkest & Jules Buckley Featuring Manu Delago – Between Us… (Live), Rocky Dawumi’s Voice of Bunbon Volume I, Masa Takumi – Sakura and Berklee Indian Ensemble – Shuruaat.
Wizkid, Davido, and other Nigerian artists were not nominated for the 2023 Grammy Awards.
At the 2021 Awards, Burna Boy and Wizkid received their first Grammy. For his work on the song Brown Skin Girl alongside singer Beyonce and her daughter Blue Ivy, Wizkid won the Grammy for Best Music Video.
Burna Boy is now the first and only artist from Africa to receive four GRAMMY nominations in a row since 2019!
