Chris Rock has come out swinging in his latest stand-up special on Netflix, taking aim at Jada Pinkett Smith’s affair and the reaction of her husband, Will Smith, to his G.I. Jane joke at last year’s Oscars.
The comedian didn’t hold back, calling out Smith’s selective outrage and making a bold jibe about the fact that Pinkett Smith interviewed her husband after cheating on him with one of her son’s friends, R&B vocalist August Alsina.
The affair between Pinkett Smith and Alsina was first revealed during an episode of her Facebook series, Red Table Talk, in which she described their relationship as an “entanglement.” According to reports, the pair first met in 2015, when Alsina was 22 years old and Pinkett Smith was 43.
Rock didn’t shy away from the topic, saying: “Will Smith practices selective outrage because everybody knows what the fk happened. Everybody knows I had nothing to do with that situation. I didn’t have any entanglements.”
He went on to make it clear that he wasn’t mincing his words, saying: “Will Smith’s wife was fking her son’s friend. I wouldn’t normally talk about this, but for some reason, they chose to put it on the internet.”
The comedian also criticized the couple’s decision to air their dirty laundry on a public platform, saying: “I have no idea why two talented people would do something that fking low down. What the fk? We’ve all been cheated on; everybody in here has been cheated on. None of us has ever been interviewed on television by the person who cheated on us. None of us.”
He went on to suggest that Pinkett Smith had hurt her husband more than he had hurt her, saying, “She hurt him way more than he hurt me.”
The controversy between Rock and the Smiths dates back to last year’s Oscars, when Rock made a G.I. Jane joke about Pinkett Smith, a comment that referenced her bald head. Smith was seen shouting ‘keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth’ before walking up to the stage and slapping Rock across the face.
Despite the incident, the ceremony continued as usual, but Smith faced repercussions for his actions, including a 10-year Oscar ban.
During his stand-up special, Rock also addressed the issue of selective outrage, making a callback to one of his earlier jokes. He criticized the Smiths for their reaction to his joke, saying, “Will Smith said nothing when all those white people didn’t nominate black performers. He’s like, ‘That’s not my lane.’ But now that it’s his wife, it’s everybody’s lane.”
However, Chris Rock’s latest stand-up special is likely to stir up controversy, with many people taking sides in the ongoing feud between him and the Smiths. However, it’s clear that the comedian isn’t afraid to speak his mind and take on some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
