During The People’s Town Hall on Channels TV on Sunday, Labour Party (LP) vice presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed was so overcome with emotion while speaking about the recent insults made to his family that he broke down in tears.
During the town hall interaction, Baba-Ahmed spoke about the hurt and pain that he and his loved ones have experienced due to the disrespectful comments and actions of certain individuals.
He stressed that his sole point, which caused some people in other political parties to disparage his late father, was being a vice presidential candidate in the hopes of reforming Nigeria.
“Me and my family have been paying a huge price for my attempt to rescue Nigeria,” Baba-Ahmed stated. “But they sent all sorts of people after me. I would have been a lot happier if only they stopped at me as an individual, but the thing I was able to sort out with the vice presidential candidate and the presidential candidate I ended up suffering from alleged much lesser level.”
“35 years ago our dad of blessed memories passed away. No one ever insulted him until I joined the elections for the presidency. No one ever insulted him. It doesn’t happen anywhere in the world. You don’t insult people’s parents or their families. It doesn’t happen. That’s the price you have to pay.”
Baba-Ahmed’s emotional response to the situation touched many in attendance, as it reminded them of the human aspect behind politics and public service. It is important to remember that behind every political figure are real people with real emotions and feelings.
