Speaking during the interview on Arise TV, the former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, stated, “I studied market-to-market management at Harvard,” when asked what he studied.
Mandy News fact’s ruling: False.
Peter Obi Interview on Arise TV
Here’s what we know: On Peter Obi’s Wikipedia page, it says he attended Harvard Business School, where he completed two major programs.
Peter Obi spoke about his integrity, business and education while speaking with Dr. Reuben Abati and Rufai Oseni during a now infamous October 24 interview. But they didn’t fact check him.
His comments came after Rufai Oseni, a broadcaster at Arise TV, asked him how he was going to achieve his “from consumption to production” agenda.
Here are his full comments:
“I studied market to market business in Harvard. In my businesses, I have a mix of manufacturing & importation. Go and ask, I was one of the largest distributors of Coca-Cola products,” he said.
It’s not that Peter Obi didn’t study at Harvard, but the course he stated in the interview is a bit confusing. Nevertheless, his remarks led some supporters of the ruling party and other opposition parties to go into investigation on the Harvard website and Google search engine.
Just like every other person busy on the Harvard website, we couldn’t find any course by Harvard known as “Market to Market Management“.
Maybe the name of the course was changed.
We are still trying to reach out to the management of Harvard University for comment on the now viral claim made by Peter Obi.
Our ruling
Peter Obi said he studied market-to-market management at the University of Harvard. Harvard did not have any courses known as “Market to Market Management,” but he did study at Harvard Business School. We rate Peter Obi’s Harvard course “False.”
