Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has taken a tough stance against violence in the state, ordering the immediate arrest of his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole, for his alleged role in mobilizing thugs to vandalize banks and businesses in the state under the guise of protesting the new naira scarcity.

The governor’s order was made through the state’s commissioner for communication and orientation, Chris Nehikhare, who called on security agencies to question and arrest Oshiomhole, saying that the former governor “deliberately instigated the protest of the people”.

Nehikhare stated that investigations revealed that there was more to the protests than met the eye and accused the political party responsible for the naira scarcity policy of sending people to destroy billboards belonging to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He called on Nigerians to be aware of the political party behind the protests and to hold them accountable for the damage done to businesses and property.

Oshiomhole, a former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had secured the party’s ticket to contest for the Edo north senatorial seat.

However, his alleged involvement in the violent protests has caused widespread condemnation and calls for his arrest.

Governor Obaseki’s swift response to the situation is a clear indication of his commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.

His government has been focused on providing the necessary infrastructure and services to the people of Edo State and creating an environment that is conducive to economic growth and development.

The governor’s call for the arrest of Oshiomhole is a clear message that those who seek to undermine the peace and stability of the state will not be tolerated.

It is a call to all Nigerians to stand up for the rule of law and to hold those in positions of authority accountable for their actions. The governor’s action is a strong reminder that no one is above the law, and that those who break the law will be held accountable for their actions.
