General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), a former head of the Nigerian military, has indicated the candidate he believes would prevail in Nigeria’s presidential election in 2023.
Although the candidate’s identity wasn’t given, the 81-year-old former Chief of Army Staff did state that the person is in their 60s.
He said this in an interview with Arise Television.
According to MandyNews.com’s research, just 7 of the 18 candidates in the race are in their 60s. The 61-year-old former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, is the most well-liked contender.
IBB wasn’t even tactful enough, as the text of the interview below demonstrates; he made the reference to the Labour Party presidential candidate in such a way that everyone could clearly understand what he was saying.
The interview excerpt is provided below.
- IBB: I have started visualizing a good Nigerian leader.
- Interviewer asks him: Who is that?
- IBB continues: A person who travels in this country and has a friend virtually everywhere he travels. He knows at least one person he can communicate with. A person who is very vast in Economics. And then a good politician who should be able to talk to Nigerians. I have seen one or two or three already.
- Interviewer asks him: Young, middle-age, elderly?
- IBB replied: 60s.
- Interviewer asks him: In their 60s?
- IBB replied: yeah.
- Interviewer asks him: You think that person should emerge in 2023?
- IBB replied: I believe so, if we could get him.
So far, it appears that many of Nigeria’s past presidents want Peter Obi to be in charge of the nation’s affairs by 2023.
