(MandyNews.com) – Caritas University, a private Catholic institution in Enugu, has been embroiled in controversy after it emerged that the school had taken some students on a secret convention trip to Elele without the knowledge or consent of their parents.

According to a concerned parent who reached out to journalist David Hundeyin, the school allegedly took the students’ phones and any means of communication from them and transported them to Elele for a three-night stay.

When confronted, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Orji, reportedly said that the school had been taking students on convention trips for years and that they did not consult with parents due to technical issues with their WhatsApp line.

The incident has sparked concerns among parents and members of the public, with many questioning the school’s policies and practices.

Former students, however, have defended the convention tradition, stating that it was a normal practice during their time at the school.

The incident has also raised questions about the safety and security of the students, as well as the transparency and accountability of the university.

Caritas University has not yet issued a statement regarding the controversy.

As the situation develops, concerned parents and members of the public are calling for greater transparency and accountability from Caritas University and other private institutions in Nigeria.

The controversy started when a concerned parent reached out to journalist David Hundeyin with a message that read:

“Hi David. Please I need you URGENT help. My children are in Caritas University in Enugu. I learnt that the school took some children out of the school premises to Elele (without their parents knowledge) and my children are amongst them. Also the school took the children’s phone or any means of communication from them. The children will stay at Elele for 3 nights!! I called the VC Prof Orji and he told me that the kids went on convention and I asked him why he did not consult us their parents first before taking the kids out of the school. He said that the school has been doing it for years and reason why they did not consult parents was because they took down their whatsapp for some reasons….please help me STOP them from doing whatever they are about to do to these children. The parents DO NOT KNOW that their children are not in school. Help us please.”
