The Rise of Fake Pastors on TikTok: My Thoughts

Let’s stop pretending.

It Starts With the Performance

You open TikTok. Suddenly, your feed shows a man in white, eyes closed, praying aggressively. The caption says:

“Don’t scroll. This is your confirmation.”

He starts shaking, calling random names:

“There is someone here. Your name starts with E… Elizabeth… yes, Elizabeth, your breakthrough is close but enemies are fighting you.”

Then a woman joins the live and starts crying:

“Man of God, you’re right. I’ve been going through pain.”

You think it’s a miracle.

But what you don’t know is — they know each other. It’s all part of the act.

The Fake Prophecy Setup

Here’s how the game works:

  1. They arrange someone in advance — a friend, cousin, or paid actor.
  2. That person joins the live pretending to be a random viewer.
  3. The pastor gives them a “prophecy” — maybe about their dead uncle or money problem.
  4. The person cries, acts shocked, and says, “You’re truly a man of God!”

Now everyone watching believes.

That’s when the trap begins.

The WhatsApp Hook

After the drama, the pastor says:

“If you want a one-on-one prophecy, message me privately.”

He drops a WhatsApp number in the comment or on screen.

Once you message, it goes like this:

  • They tell you “spirits” are fighting you.
  • They say your family has a curse.
  • Then they ask for money — sorry, “seed” — so they can fast and pray for you.
  • Amount? Sometimes ₦10k, ₦50k, or more.

If you pay, they give you a random prayer and vanish.

Some will block you. Some will ask for more next week. It never ends.

These People Are Wicked

They’re not praying. They’re playing. With your emotions, your desperation, and your money.

They know Nigerians are going through pain — no jobs, relationship heartbreak, fear of the future. They use that pain as content.

Imagine acting like you’re helping someone, just to get TikTok gifts and mobile money.

That’s evil.

The Red Flags Are Always There

Let’s be honest. Real pastors don’t:

  • Go live every day to fish for gifts
  • Sell “spiritual soap” and “prophetic water” like they’re hawking gala
  • Give recycled prophecies to 30 people in one hour
  • Say the same lines: “I see a black pot in your father’s house” or “Your star is being monitored”

It’s all copy and paste prophecy.

My Story

I joined one of those lives once — just to observe.

Within 3 minutes, they said:

“You’ve been going through delay. God wants to deliver you.”

Bro… I didn’t even say hello. They didn’t know anything about me.

Then they told me to drop my number for WhatsApp.

Guess what?

That same pastor’s WhatsApp profile photo was him in front of a Benz with a dollar bundle.

Is that who you want to pray for you?

What You Should Do Instead

  • Pray for yourself. God hears you.
  • Read your Bible. Learn truth from source.
  • Go to a real church where someone knows your name, not just your username.
  • Keep your money. Don’t pay for miracles.

Final Words

Stop falling for performance.

TikTok is not your church.
The comment section is not your altar.
And “typing Amen” will not save you from anything.

God doesn’t need Wi-Fi to hear you. Speak to Him directly.

Don’t let fake prophets cash out on your pain.
