ASABA, Nigeria (MandyNews.com) — The fatal shooting of Ibeh Onyeka, a hardworking phone merchant known as Onyi Gadget, has sparked outrage and protests in Asaba, Delta State, following reports that a bribe-seeking police officer was responsible for the incident.

Onyeka ran a store in the busy Ogbe-Ogonogo market and was well-known in the area.

The tragedy unfolded on the busy Ugbolu-Asaba road, with Onyeka’s wife witnessing the horrific event.

Witnesses say that the police officer asked Onyeka for a bribe of N100, which he refused to pay. In response, the officer reportedly opened fire, killing the young businessman on the spot.

The people of Asaba are angry because the police have not yet given an official response to the incident. As a result, residents, especially the youth, have taken to the streets to protest against police brutality and demand justice for Onyeka.

Demonstrators want the officer who shot the man to be arrested and charged, and they also want police reform in general.

As investigations continue, the people of Asaba are saddened by the loss of a well-known person and pushing for systemic changes to stop more violence and abuse of power by police.
