According to reports, four students at the University of Calabar in Nigeria have been suspended from the institution for their involvement in a water ritual.
In accordance with the widely shared video seen by MandyNews.com, the young boys were found guilty of engaging in an illegal water ritual on a fellow female student.
The suspension was granted this week by Professor Florence Obi, vice chancellor of the University of Calabar.
The institution’s registrar, Gabriel Egbe, announced the suspension in a publication that was dated and signed on Saturday in Calabar.
According to Mr. Egbe, the illegal activity was committed by the four students on December 2, 2022, during the institution’s final matriculation ceremony.
Stephen Usen, a year four accounting student, and Aniefiok Idorenyin, a year two computer science student, were two of the students named by Mr. Egbe as being profoundly affected.
Other students include Miracle Adeyemi, a second-year political science student, and Blessing Queen, a fourth-year genetics and biotechnology student.
The official statement from the school, as seen by Mandy News, is below.
- “Management deliberated extensively on the report of the committee on Gender-Based Violence and the strength of its findings and has accordingly directed the affected students to proceed on suspension with effect from the 2020/2021 academic session.
- “Deans, Heads of Departments and other relevant officers of the university have been tasked with the duty of full compliance with the given directive,” Mr Egbe said.
