Imoru and Arimogija communities in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state were recently hit by a brutal attack carried out by suspected herdsmen.

According to a resident of one of the affected communities, Ayodele Ogunmola, the attackers shot at people on sight, torched properties, blocked roads, and even molested women. The exact number of casualties remains unknown.

In response to the attack, security agents including the police and the Amotekun Corps have been deployed to the communities to help restore order and prevent further violence.

The police spokesperson in Ondo, Funmilayo Odulami-Omisanya, has not yet released an official statement regarding the attack.

This is not the first time the villages in Ose have come under attack from herdsmen. Last year, the area saw a similar attack where herdsmen killed local residents, who were mostly commercial farmers, and destroyed crops worth millions of naira.

Herdsmen attacks have been a persistent problem in Nigeria, causing widespread destruction, loss of life, and displacement of communities. The government and security agencies have been heavily criticized for not doing enough to prevent such attacks and protect citizens.

It is imperative that the government takes concrete steps to address the issue of herdsmen attacks and bring an end to the violence. This requires a multi-faceted approach that includes increased security measures, improved communication between communities and the government, and a strong commitment to justice for victims of these attacks.

In addition, it is crucial for communities to come together and work towards finding long-term solutions that address the root causes of these attacks and promote peace and stability. Only by working together can the people of Nigeria hope to end the cycle of violence and ensure a safe and secure future for all.
