TV producer and culinary entrepreneur Hilda Baci breaks Guinness World Record with a 100-hour cooking marathon, showcasing over 250 recipes and putting Nigeria on the global culinary map.
LAGOS, Nigeria – Chef Hilda Baci, famed for her innovative approach to fusion cuisine, has rewritten the culinary record books by cooking non-stop for an unprecedented 100 hours, smashing the previous Guinness World Record.
The Nigerian TV producer, actress, and the culinary powerhouse behind FoodbyHilda, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has made international headlines by shattering the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.
The impressive feat took place during a four-day cook-a-thon, starting on May 11 and concluding on May 14, 2023. The event was streamed live across various social media platforms, enabling audiences worldwide to watch Hilda skillfully prepare over 250 unique recipes.
“The journey to the cook-a-thon started five years ago. It is one of my biggest aspirations, and I am thrilled to have taken the bold step to embark on this culinary adventure. I have invested time and effort to prepare myself mentally, and I am proud to finally take on this challenge,” Hilda shared.
This cook-a-thon served not only as a display of her remarkable culinary talents but also as a platform to highlight the diverse stories that Africa offers through food. She believes this endeavor demonstrates what young individuals can achieve with the right opportunities and support.
Hilda, who also helms My Food by Hilda, a fast-food restaurant in Lekki, successfully broke the previous record of 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 0 seconds set by Chef Lata London in Rewa, India, in 2019.
During a press conference in Lagos, Hilda emphasized the cook-a-thon’s role as an inspiring platform for young people, particularly girls, stating:
“The goal of the Cook-a-thon is to inspire every young girl about the possibility of achieving their dreams. This is why I am setting an example with this attempt. My victory will be a win for young women across the continent, breaking barriers and leaving a lasting impact.”
Hilda’s passion for cooking was kindled by her mother’s culinary techniques. A graduate of Sociology from Madonna University in Okija, Anambra State, she ventured into the catering business while still a student, launching My Food with her brother.
Her culinary skills eventually led her to television, starting with the cooking segment “In my Kitchen” on Rave TV‘s breakfast show, Morning Rave. She also hosted “Dine on A Budget” on Pop Central TV, where she facilitated engaging conversations with celebrities while treating them to exceptional dining experiences.
The record-breaking cook-a-thon took place at Amore Garden in Lekki, Lagos. The event welcomed guests to partake in various side activities, enhancing the festive atmosphere around the marathon.
Hilda’s achievement has put Nigeria firmly on the global culinary map, proving that with determination, passion, and the right platform, dreams can indeed become a reality.
