Twitter Ban: Nigeria Loses N600.35bn After Seven Months

222 days after a microblogging giant Twitter was banned from operating in Nigeria, the Buhari-led administration lost a whopping sum of N600.35 billion over the shutdown of the app.

In the aftermath of a deleted tweet of President Muhammadu Buhari, Twitter access got blocked in Nigeria.

The ban was lifted on Thursday, 13 January 2022 after the American-owned app agreed with the federal government conditions.

According to the information gathered by MandyNews from NetBlocks Cost of Shutdown Tool, Nigeria’s economy loses NGN 630,572,411,669 (six hundred thirty billion five hundred seventy-two million four hundred eleven thousand six hundred sixty-nine) in 222 days to the ban on Twitter.

How much Twitter lost in Nigeria?

Twitter lost billions of dollars in Nigeria after Telecommunication companies had June 5 blocked access to the platform after receiving a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission to that effect.
