EDO, Nigeria (MANDY NEWS) — Multiple suspected kidnappers have been killed in a gun battle with the Nigerian army along Benin Auchi Road on Wednesday.
It was a tragic new month in Godwin Obaseki’s led state as gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers invaded the federal government highway, the Benin-Auchi road.
The military engaged in a gun battle with the kidnappers, however, they were shot dead.
In a viral video sighted by MANDY NEWS, the scene affected movement on the busy road as vehicles thwarted their trip.
Kidnap activities on the Benin-Auchi road has taken worrying turn.
Last month, five kidnap victims were rescued by security operatives at Okwo Ogbemudia farm, Uhunmwonde local government of the state, on the Benin-Auchi road while six others were rescued at Ekpoma, in Esan West local government of the state.
It was learnt that one of the kidnappers was killed in a gun battle with the police during the rescue operation at the Okwo Ogbemudia farm.
Data from Nextier SPD Violent Conflict Database shows that in the twelve months to September 2021, Nigeria recorded 20 kidnap-for-ransom incidents resulting in 2,542 kidnap victims.
