Social media users are going crazy over a video of Messi missing his second penalty at the World Cup.
Wojciech Szczesny saved Lionel Messi’s penalty kick to offer what some interpreted as swift justice after Argentina was given a questionable penalty in their World Cup match against Poland.
Argentina’s players complained during the first half of the game when Szczesny made contact with Messi while attempting to grab a cross.
Danny Makkelie, the official, pointed to the spot after being called over to the VAR monitor, but Messi was unable to capitalize when Szcezny dove in the proper direction to block his shot.
This was Argentina’s second penalty kick of the 2022 World Cup.
In the opening match against Saudi Arabia, Messi scored from the penalty spot, but he was unable to do so again against Poland.
Prior to the Poland match, the 2021 Ballon d’Or winner scored two of his nation’s three goals. He opened the scoring in the crucial match against Mexico, and Enzo Fernandez added the game-winning goal for Tata Martino’s team.
