On Sunday, the United States’ R’Bonney Nola Gabriel was named Miss Universe 2022.
R’Bonney Gabriel, a Texas-based fashion designer, model, and sewing instructor, was awarded the Miss Universe 2022. According to competition organisers, she is the first Filipino American to win Miss USA.
When the winner was finally revealed in a spectacular manner, Gabriel closed her eyes and held hands with Miss Venezuela, Amanda Dudamel, the runner-up, and beamingly smiled afterward.
She received a bouquet of flowers, was given the winner’s sash to wear, and was crowned with a tiara on stage during the 71st Miss Universe Pageant in New Orleans, all to the sound of thudding music.
Miss Dominican Republic, Andreina Martinez, came in as the second runner-up.
In the final round of the competition, when the three finalists participated in a Q&A session, Gabriel was asked how, if she were to win, she would endeavour to show that Miss Universe is “an empowering and progressive organisation.”
