Beyoncé is no stranger to performing in front of large crowds and commanding high paychecks for her performances.
However, her recent appearance at Atlantis The Royal in Dubai has raised eyebrows with its unprecedented paycheck.
The question on everyone’s mind is: was it worth it?
Beyoncé’s highly-anticipated performance at Dubai’s ultra-luxury hotel, Atlantis The Royal, was a show worth the wait.
The invitation-only audience was treated to a 73-minute set that included three costumes, a squad of backing dancers, and even a cameo appearance from Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
The performance marked the singer’s first return to the stage in four years, and it was clear that she was back and better than ever.
The show was met with rapturous praise from fans, despite organizers’ requests for no photography at the event.
Beyoncé Pay For Atlantis The Royal Dubai
For her performance, Beyoncé reportedly took home $24 million, along with a stay at the hotel’s $100,000-per-night room, the most expensive in the world. When calculated, the show worked out to a cool $328,767 per minute for the singer.
VIP guests and celebrities eagerly gathered to watch Beyoncé perform some of her biggest hits, such as Crazy in Love, Spirit, and Drunk in Love.
The setting of the Atlantis The Royal hotel proved to be an impressive backdrop for the performance, with the imposing luxury hotel looming as a marble-wreathed background while the singer triumphantly performed.
In some respects, Beyoncé’s resounding performance on stage is a testament to the positivity that has colored the past year in Dubai. While many around the world have been advised to tighten their belts and prepare for a recession, the mood in Dubai has been positively jubilant, with the boom times firmly in place.
With the city planning to welcome 30 million tourists a year by 2030, the sky seems to be the limit in terms of attracting talent and artists, with Beyoncé’s performance being a capstone on a year of continued good times.
The invite-only concert was attended by A-list celebrities, including US model and reality TV star Kendall Jenner, British singer Liam Payne, Beyoncé’s husband Jay Z, Emirati-Yemeni singer Balqees Fathi, Australian actress Rebel Wilson, US model Olivia Culpo, Indian actor Aamir Khan, British actress Michelle Keegan, and the “Emily In Paris” star Ashley Park.
The backdrop for the show was the “School of Athens” painting by Italian Renaissance artist Raphael. It’s worth mentioning that in 2008, Kylie Minogue opened the original Atlantis, just next door to the Royal, with a $5 million firework display.
However, only 12 months later the city’s economy came to a grinding halt as the Great Recession took a vicious swing at Dubai. Fourteen years later, Dubai is at the top of its game, with little suggestion that a repeat performance is on the way. The even more impressive launch and firework show bearing testament to the city’s belief in success, and its ability to bring back the best and the brightest in the entertainment industry.
