Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president of Nigeria, endorsed Peter Obi in a press release on Sunday, giving the Labour presidential candidate a boost from the national leader and one of the most highly respected people in the nation.
“From interaction and experience, and as mentees as most of them claim, I will, without prejudice, fear or ill-will, make bold to say that there are four major factors to watch out for in a leader you will consider to hoist on yourself and on the rest of Nigerians in the coming election and they are what I call TVCP: Track record of ability and performance; Vision that is authentic, honest and realistic; Character and attributes of a lady and a gentleman who are children of God and obedient to God; and Physical and mental capability with soundness of mind as it is a very taxing and tasking assignment at the best of times and more so, it is at the most difficult time that we are, Obasanjo said in a lengthy article,” urging the youths not to be fool again.
Peter Obi and Obasanjo have a tight relationship dating back to the period when Peter Obi was the governor of the state of Anambra. Obasanjo leaned heavily and observed Peter Obi’s sincerity and realism.
The endorsement marks Obasanjo’s return to presidential politics more than sixteen years after leaving the Aso Villa.
He hardly ever addresses voters personally and refrained from getting involved in the PDP Primary.
However, Obasanjo has been attentively monitoring the 2023 presidential election from a distance and is willing to participate actively in Peter Obi’s campaign.
He has met Peter Obi on multiple occasions, recommended his supporters to him, and also introduced him to some highly respected people in the South Western region of Nigeria.
The endorsement comes just one day after Wike said he didn’t speak to Tinubu in London; however, most people believe Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo are in charge of the G5 governors. All the influential men of God in Nigeria now support the former governor as well.
