The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) New Era, a paramilitary and rights group in Yoruba, recently outlined its reasons for refusing to back Bola Tinubu’s bid for the presidency in 2023 on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In an interview with The Guardian sighted by MandyNews.com in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, the organization’s secretary, Sina Akinpelu, claimed that Tinubu had not backed the Yoruba agenda.
What they’re saying: According to Akinpelu, Tinubu has always been pro-North, hence none of the ideas or initiatives that Yoruba groups have brought to him since 1999 had received his backing.
Sina Akinpelu
“Tinubu is always against Yoruba agenda. Most of the Yoruba projects we have taken to him since 1999, he is always against them.
Akinpelu told reporter in an inland state in southwestern Nigeria that Tinubu “is subject to northern oligarchy because he was brought up by the PDM,“The Guardian reports.
“Tinubu believes in northern agenda. He is always against any agenda that is against the North.“
