Gboko, Benue State โ€” (MandyNews.com) The National Chairman of Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has been suspended by the party’s Ward Executive in Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area, Benue State, over allegations of anti-party activities.

The suspension was announced on Sunday by Mr. Vangeryina Dooyum, the Ward Secretary, on behalf of Kashi Philip, the Ward Chairman. It came after a review of Dr. Ayu’s behavior after the recent general elections.

Twelve out of the 17-member Ward Executive signed the suspension document.

According to the Ward Secretary, Dr. Ayu has failed to pay his annual subscription fees as required under Section 8(9) of the PDP’s constitution, and further investigation revealed that he did not vote in the governorship and state assembly elections held on March 18, 2023.

The leaders of the PDP in Igyorov Ward also said that some of Dr. Ayu’s closest friends worked for the All Progressive Congress (APC), which hurt the PDP’s chances in the ward.

As a result of these findings, the Ward Executive passed a vote of no confidence in Dr. Iyorchia Ayu and suspended him as a member of the party with immediate effect, starting on March 24, 2023.

The suspension of the PDP’s National Chairman shows that tensions are growing within the party and makes people wonder where Nigeria’s main opposition party will go in the future.
