If you’ve been following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, you’re undoubtedly one of the many spectators hoping or predicting Argentina would overcome France in the tournament’s final match on Sunday.
Morocco, the first country from Africa to advance to the World Cup semifinals, was defeated by France on Wednesday night. The Emmanuel Macron country will play Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, in the final game next week.
France won the 2018 World Cup, which Russia hosted. It was their first major victory on home soil since 1998, when they also won the tournament.
The team that went to Russia was an enthralling mix of youth and experience. Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappe, for example, provided distinct focal points of attack up front, while Ngolo Kante, Raphael Varane, and Hugo Lloris served as the team’s rock-solid foundation.
The France 2018 team was without numerous well-known players, including Laurent Koscielny, Adrien Rabiot, Aymeric Laporte, Moussa Sissoko, Dimitri Payet, and Kinglsey Coman, which was particularly impressive. Due to his involvement in the viral video blackmail controversy, Karim Benzema was also managed to stay out of the race.
France actually had a sluggish start to their tournament, only barely defeating Peru and Australia in Group C before failing to score against Denmark. After winning their group, they beat Argentina 4-3 in the first round of the playoffs, and then they defeated Uruguay easily 2-0 in the quarterfinals.
They qualified for the final, where they met Croatia, who presented them with similarly challenging competition, with a nail-biting 1-0 victory over high-flying Belgium. With a 4-2 victory on July 15, 2018, they officially became the World Champions, with goals from Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba, and Kylian Mbappe as well as Mario Mandzukic’s terrible own goal.
France was also a formidable opponent at the Qatar 2022 World Cup because so many of their star players were there. Once more, their team has a good mix of experience and youth, and their offensive unit may be the best of the competition.
Without going into great detail, we think France will defeat Argentina and win the world cup final.
If they win a second World Cup in a row, they would join the legendary Brazil sides of 1958 and 1962 as the third squad to accomplish this feat.
Prediction: Argentina 0 : 2 France
