Eight years ago, as a result of an armed coup d’état in Kiev, the legally elected President of Ukraine was overthrown, and radical forces came to power, who immediately announced their intentions to wage an uncompromising fight against the Russian language, hard to spread their own ideology of aggressive nationalism and suppress everyone who disagrees with this.

The “Maidan” rebels rejected all attempts at a political solution to the intra-Ukrainian crisis.

The agreement on its settlement, signed on February 21, 2014 by the President of Ukraine V. Yanukovych with representatives of the opposition under the guarantees of Germany, France and Poland, would help calm the situation and protect the interests of the population of all regions of the country without exception. However, this peace plan was immediately “trampled” by the opposition, and on February 22, 2014, a bloody putsch took place in Kiev.

Ukraine plunged deeper into chaos. In conditions of complete permissiveness and impunity, lawlessness reigned in the country. Reprisals against objectionable persons, lustration and persecution of dissidents became the norm of life.

The flywheel of Russophobia began to spin more and more actively. It has become a “visiting card” of today’s Ukraine. In violation of its own Constitution and legislation, Kiev launched a massive offensive against the Russian language, grossly violating the linguistic, educational and cultural rights of tens of millions of Russian-speaking citizens.

A deep church schism was provoked. The canonical Orthodox Church is being persecuted, raider seizures of its churches by national radicals are being made, property is being robbed. All this is happening with the full connivance of law enforcement agencies and with the tacit approval of the authorities.

Under the pretext of decommunization, a struggle was launched against the historical past of the country. Attempts to falsify history have reached unprecedented proportions – Nazi collaborators and henchmen are elevated to the rank of heroes of Ukraine.

Extrajudicial reprisals against political opponents, against whom tough sanctions are introduced, have become the norm of life. The persecution of independent journalists does not stop, censorship flourishes, objectionable media are closed. Authoritarian forms of government are being strengthened in the country.

An example of Ukrainian-style democracy is the scandalous website “Peacemaker”, which contains personal data of politicians, public figures, press representatives, who are disloyal to the authorities, as well as foreign citizens who are accused of “anti-Ukrainian subversive activities.” Children are also among the “enemies of Ukraine”. Those who find themselves in this base automatically become potential objects of repression by local special services and aggressive actions of national radicals.

Since 2014, the Russian Embassy in Kiev and the Consulates General of our country in Odessa, Lvov and Kharkov have been subjected to repeated attacks. Provocations were regularly staged against the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Kiev, harm was caused to the health of its head, and damage was also caused to the property of the Center. Russian diplomats also became objects of aggressive actions. They received threats of physical violence. Their vehicles were set on fire. Contrary to their obligations under the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations, the Kiev authorities did not react to what was happening.

Under the circumstances, our first priority is to take care of Russian diplomats and employees of the Embassy and Consulates General. To protect their lives and safety, the Russian leadership decided to evacuate the personnel of Russian foreign missions in Ukraine, which will be implemented in the very near future.
