Agustin Escobar, the President and CEO of Siemens Spain, was killed alongside his wife and their three children in a helicopter crash over the Hudson River on Thursday, authorities have confirmed.
The family had flown into New York City from Barcelona earlier in the day and boarded a Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV operated by New York Helicopter Tours.
A photograph posted on the tour company’s website showed the family of five posing in front of the helicopter just moments before takeoff.
Tragically, the aircraft plunged into the Hudson River shortly after departure. Emergency teams responded swiftly, recovering all five family members from the submerged wreckage. Their deaths were later confirmed by officials.
The identity of the pilot has not been released. Investigators say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and local law enforcement are currently working to determine whether mechanical failure, pilot error, or other factors led to the fatal incident.
Escobar, a respected figure in global business, had led Siemens Spain for several years, playing a key role in advancing the company’s energy and infrastructure projects across Europe.
The sudden loss has sent shockwaves through both corporate circles and the Spanish community. Flags at Siemens Spain headquarters were lowered to half-mast on Friday in honor of the family.
This is a developing story. More updates will follow as details emerge.
