On a crowded street in Tel Aviv, Israel, gunfire broke out on Thursday night, injuring three persons.

According to Israeli authorities, the police shot and killed the shooter.

A 23-year-old Palestinian affiliated with Hamas was the alleged assailant. The injured person’s condition wasn’t immediately known.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was in Rome at the time, released a statement saying, “There has been another terror attack in the heart of Tel Aviv tonight.”

He expressed his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured and pledged support to security forces.

After the shooting, a photo circulated on social media showing the attacker pointing a pistol in the middle of the street.

The MADA rescue service reported one of the wounded to be in critical condition. The area was cordoned off by police.

Hours earlier, Israeli troops killed three Palestinian militants in the occupied West Bank.

According to police, Israeli forces raided the village of Jaba to arrest suspects wanted for attacks on Israeli soldiers in the area.

The suspects opened fire on the troops, who responded with gunfire and killed three people affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group. A fourth man was hospitalized with a bullet wound to the head.

Israeli police shared a photo of weapons, ammunition and explosive devices that were confiscated in Jaba, south of the city of Jenin.

A fledgling militia called the Jaba militant group, made up of disillusioned young Palestinians who have taken up arms against Israel’s occupation, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Residents said Israeli troops killed members of the group who had recently been incarcerated by Israel and had carried out a recent shooting attack at a nearby checkpoint.

The events of the evening have once again highlighted the tense and violent atmosphere between Israel and Palestine.
