The Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has made a firm declaration that he will not accept the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, as his president.
Bakare voiced his concerns during a webinar on Saturday, drawing attention to a number of alleged malpractices during the 2023 elections. He lambasted the Independent National Electoral Commission, accusing them of creating a mess of the electoral process.
“Last Wednesday, I was at the Glass House where President Buhari has been restricted now because the main house is being renovated. I said I have done that for you. I want you to know that, because of the circumstances of your flying into power on the wings of integrity and incorruptibility, but you’re now passing onto someone who does not have that value,” Bakare said.
Despite Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s impending inauguration on Monday, Bakare remains staunch in his position.
Bakare’s journey in the political landscape has been fraught with trials and tribulations. His participation in the All Progressives Congress presidential primary in June 2022 saw him leaving empty-handed, as he did not receive a single vote. Despite this setback, Bakare stood tall:
“I participated in the primary, and there were hundreds (of persons) who participated only by stepping down, so there is no shame in what we have done. We spoke truth to power within seven minutes,” he declared.
As Nigeria prepares to welcome Tinubu as its new president, the country is expectant of the promised resolutions to the security and power crises. With Bakare’s refusal to acknowledge Tinubu as his president, only time will tell how this narrative will unfold.
