Viral video of a Louisiana water plant employee allegedly urinating in the water supply leads to arrest on felony charges; officials confirm the city’s drinking water remains safe.
The 57-year-old employee, Michael Mastin, was taken into custody last week in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, after the video circulated widely on social media.
He has been charged with two counts each of contaminating water supplies and criminal damage to critical infrastructure.
The video, captured by a security camera at the water treatment plant, appears to show Mastin repositioning the camera before urinating into a large pool of water at the facility.
The viral footage has sparked widespread concern and prompted an immediate investigation.
Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment condemned Mastin’s actions as “disgusting and unacceptable,” adding that the administration had been notified of the incident on March 22.
Following the verification of the claims, Mastin was terminated from his position with the city.
Despite the disturbing nature of the video, officials have reassured the public that the city’s drinking water has not been compromised.
Multiple tests and samples confirm that the water supply still meets all required safety standards.
The case has been referred to the state Department of Health, the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and federal authorities for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Mastin has not provided an explanation for his alleged actions, particularly given the availability of a nearby bathroom at the plant.
