A video of a domestic passenger plane which crashed into Lake Victoria in Tanzania is going viral on social media platforms.
The viral footage was captured by community members. In the northwest Tanzanian city of Bukoba in the Kagera Region, it appeared that the plane had landed inside the lake.
Mandy News learned that the plane fell into water about 100 meters from the airport from regional police commander William Mwampaghale.
The accident happened early on Sunday due to bad weather.
The tragedy was confirmed in a brief statement by Precision Air, the biggest private airline in Tanzania.
As of the time this story was filed, the plane had killed 19, and 24 people had been rescued.
Precision Air later acknowledged this in a statement following the disaster, which was initially attributed to bad weather.
Images and videos posted on social media showed the plane partially drowned in the lake, with just its green and brown tail showing above the surface.
