A video which shows witch doctors pouring fresh blood on Kwara United football players in Niger has gone viral on social media.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF), which represents football in Africa, was alerted to the video by a number of social media users and numerous football supporters who had noticed the video.
The Kwara United social media manager claimed that as their players prepared to enter the field, witch doctors employed by the AS Douanes football club spilled blood on them.
“AS Douanes hired herbalists poured blood on @KwaraUnitedFC players as they are about entering the field,” he tweeted.
He added, “The 2 herbalists, 1 with keg of blood & the other with goat performed the act when the players are coming down from the bus. NO single policeman”
In the video, the witch doctor is seen pouring blood on the players as they get off the bus. Another witch doctor was carrying a goat along with him at the same spot.
Angry orders were promptly given for the players to board the bus again by the club management.
Later, at 6:15 PM, the game was played, and Kwara United defeated AS Douanes 2-0.
