Following a crush at the O2 Academy in Brixton, a Nigerian woman has died and two others are still in critical condition.
The 33-year-old woman, whose name is Rebecca Ikumelo, was taken quickly to the hospital after a big group of people purportedly tried to force their way into the location of singer Asake’s concert.
She passed away this morning, December 17, according to information gathered by Mandy News, while two other women, ages 21 and 23, are still receiving medical care.
Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove, the police chief for Lambeth and Southwark, made the following remarks Friday at the scene:
“I’d like to extend my sympathies to all those who have been affected.
“Having seen some of the really upsetting images on social media our thoughts are with them.”
The event marked the third of three sold-out performances at the 4,921-seat facility and wrapped up a run of UK appearances.
According to information gathered by Mandy News from British media agencies, Asake had written on Twitter prior to the concert imploring supporters not to enter the venue without a legal ticket.
We pray for eternal peace for Rebecca Ikumelo’s soul.
