The recent Nigerian presidential and national assembly elections have been marred by allegations of cyberattacks and voter fraud.

Muhammad Abubakar, managing director of Galaxy Backbone (GBB), a federal government agency responsible for providing secure communication services, has claimed that over 200 cyberattacks were blocked during the election, and over 1.2 million attacks were blocked in the aftermath, the Cable reports.

The official website of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria, which was used to provide information about the election, was hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), a popular cloud computing platform known for its high uptime and security.

However, INEC has claimed that its server for presidential election data experiences challenges on the day of the election, leading some Nigerians to question the veracity of the claim, Punch News reports.

There have been calls on social media for the Labour Party Forensic Team to obtain a court subpoena for logs from Amazon AWS Cloud, in order to investigate the alleged server downtime.

Despite these calls, INEC has stated that the issues with the INEC Results Viewing Portal, which was used to display election results, were due to technical challenges rather than sabotage.

As a reputable news outlet, MandyNews.com sought to investigate these claims and contacted AWS for more information regarding the hosting of the INEC website. However, AWS has not responded to our request for comment.

Although the precise reason for the technical issues with the INEC Results Viewing Portal is still unknown, it is crucial for INEC to take prompt action to resolve these problems in order to ensure transparency and public trust in the electoral process.

Additionally, it is critical that government organizations and service providers take all required precautions to protect against cyberattacks, especially during crucial occasions like elections.

As the Nigerian elections wind down, it is critical that all parties involved cooperate to enhance the electoral process and resolve any issues brought up by the general public.

Nigeria’s citizens’ capacity to place their faith in the fairness and transparency of their elections will determine the country’s democratic destiny.

We will continue to closely monitor this developing story and provide updates as new information becomes available. Stay tuned for our in-depth coverage of this issue.
